Most customers are not at home to receive their parcels because they’re at work, especially in city areas, and furthermore many offices do not accept or encourage personal deliveries, even if they do it will be a hassle for the customers.
Armed with RM850,000 in pre-seed funding, former telecommunications executive, Arvin Loh, has launched After 5, which is Malaysia’s first logistics company that is dedicated to delivering parcels right to your doorstep between 5 p.m. - 12 a.m. on a daily basis.
Initially rolled out in beta mode in January 2018, After 5 now covers up to 90% of Klang Valley’s postcodes with plans to expand to other key cities across Malaysia by end of 2018. Their primary clients currently include e-commerce merchants and marketplaces.
Speaking about the announcement, Founder and CEO of After 5, Arvin Loh had this to say: “The current operating model of courier deliveries has been the same for decades: delivering over working hours and working days. This is fine from an operation’s point of view but not so when it comes to customer experience.”
“Most customers are not at home to receive their parcels because they’re at work, especially in city areas, and furthermore many offices do not accept or encourage personal deliveries, even if they do it will be a hassle for the customers. More often than not, customers have to resort to alternatives like redeliveries, self-pickup from warehouses, parcel lockers," said Loh.
Presently, merchants will have to pay a premium for deliveries after office hours, but with After 5’s competitive pricing, merchants will pay rates similar to deliveries during office hours. After 5 also carries more liability than most courier players in the market, covering up to RM300 per parcel in case of lost or damaged items.
The company is also using Machine Learning to help optimise its operations.
