While year 2015 was a battle among e-marketplaces, should we expect M&As of B2C e-commerce sites this year?
While year 2015 was a battle among e-marketplaces, should we expect M&As of B2C e-commerce sites this year (as mentioned here)?
We are just entering year 2016 and this is already brewing in Malaysia, as Hermo (the #1 online beauty store in Malaysia) has just acquired Soukai, the online grocer by Japan's Sumitomo.
While there is no public announcements yet, Soukai has started distributing the announcement to its business partners.
According to the announcement, Soukai.my will be changed to Hermiso.com and the company name's will be renamed to Hermiso Ecommerce Sdn Bhd by February 2016.
M&A of B2C e-commerce sites make a lot of sense for us as there is potentially cross-categories synergy, or consolidate resources (instead of killing each other) to compete with the big boys a.k.a. e-marketplaces.
Are we seeing more M&As happening? Let's keep an eye out!
