Last year for 11.11, we made RM1,000 every minute, and hit RM1.5million in total. Imagine the shock we had, finding out that Mono Digital had achieved a growth rate of seven times since the last 11.11.

People are always talking about success. It is a word we hear so often and an idea that seems to be constantly dangling in front of our faces - just out of reach.

It all started two years ago during a luncheon with a good friend of mine, Adam at Lowyat Plaza.  Adam was talking to me about how he had a business on the side that was generating a generous amount of income. His business was online and all he sold was gadgets and bags. This shocked me a little and to be honest I was very skeptical about this. It took me a while into the conversation before I could grasp everything he was saying. Finally, I suggested that the two of us should be partners and start something online. Adam, after all had already established a good network supply.

Adam was an expert in IT. I, on the other hand had vast experience in Sales and Marketing. My pitch to Adam was that, with our combined skills, we would be able to see more profits. There was no harm trying it out and there was honestly nothing to lose. Adam agreed and that was the start of our partnership.

As things were going quite smoothly for us, one day Adam and I discussed and decided to quit our current jobs and focus solely on the business. Obviously, this was a decision that our family and friends were against. I mean, giving up a monthly income that looks after our household versus an online business that may or may not generate income. That was surely a big concern. But, nevertheless, we took the risk and went on with it.

Just like every start up, Mono Digital was established on a small scale. A 100 square feet office with two chairs, a table and a cabinet to store our products was all we had in the beginning. We started marketing our products through social media as a start, and then we came across this website called Lazada. We did our research on how to become a seller on Lazada. It was a crazy ride for us as we were new in the e-commerce industry. We faced so many challenges especially in using the right marketing tools for our business. The category we chose to sell on was the 'Gadgets & Electronics' category. This was not easy for us at all as it was a very competitive category and we were the new players on the block. Lucky for us, we were able to gain the trust and support from a few key brands such as SanDisk and Panasonic. These brands have consistently supported us in terms of campaign efforts with Lazada. We managed to push our growth rate and sales higher.

When we heard about Lazada's big 11.11 sale the previous year, we were excited that we were going to be a part of it. We achieved massive sales amounting to RM150,000 in just 24 hours! Sitting in our 100 square feet space and thinking of this unexpected success, we were truly proud of ourselves. With this, we hungered for more. But again, because we were newbies, we needed some guidance. Lazada provides its sellers with workshops, conferences and the best of all, a key account manager that is there to guide you through every step of the way. The Lazada seller system gave us access to the relevant marketing tools that enabled us to monitor our business performance. This was a perfect way for us to learn, improve and grow even more.

Last year for 11.11, we had learned some tricks were more prepared. We stocked up on more products and had more manpower to handle the packing of items after the orders came in. The rush of excitement doing this again is just too hard to put into words. We barely slept but the results achieved from that one day alone was beyond our expectations.

At the stroke of midnight on Sunday, we closed our 11.11 sales. We made RM1,000 every minute, and hit RM1.5million in total. Imagine the shock we had, finding out that Mono Digital had achieved a growth rate of seven times since the last 11.11. This was by far the highest milestone that we accomplished since we ventured into digital entrepreneurship two years ago.

Despite all the crazy rollercoaster rides we've had, today, Mono Digital is ranked amongst the top 10 market-based sellers in Lazada after a survey was held post 11.11 last year. We are very grateful and thankful to have our families and close friends as our support system.

Increase the number of manpower - There will always be overwhelming orders especially during campaign periods, this is to stay ahead of this issue

Participate in all seller conferences/ workshops organized - It is never a waste of time, in fact it would help generate more income

Projection plan - Set goals and a realistic projection plan for the company. This will help manage the expectation of the sales growth and sometimes even exceed it
